Abstrak

Tulisan ini adalah mengkaji perkembangan komunikasi dan ilmu komunikasi secara historis  berdasarkan  era.  Era  yang  dimaksudkan  adalah  perkembangan  dari  segi praktik komunikasi (meskipun dalam lintasan sejarahnya, ada masa belum dikenalnya istilah komunikasi dan setelah diperkenalkan sebagai suatu disiplin ilmu tersendiri). Kajian ini memfokuskan diskusi berkaitan dengan paper yang dikemukakan John C. Reinard  (August  1997) berjudul:  “The Development  of the Field of Communication:  Our Roots.”
