Abstrak

Dalam essay-nya Encoding/ Decoding mengajukan model komunikasi massa yang ditandai dengan poin penting interpretasi aktif dalam kode-kode yang relevan, karena mendobrak konsepsi-konsepsi model tradisional dalam ilmu komunikasi. Berdasarkan model baru ini “‘struktur kompleks dalam dominansi’”pada setiap elemen, meski terhubung, cukup jelas dari yang lain dan mendominasi pada momen khusus di dalam proses komunikasi. Dalam tulisan ini  juga  mencatat  bahwa  model  ini  menekankan  apa  yang  membuat  produksi  wacana (diskursif) berbeda dengan bentuk produksi lain.
